According to experts and interior designers compiled by Forbes, all-white and farmhouse-style kitchens are no longer mainstays in 2023.
“All white everything is on its way out. For the past decade, we’ve been seeing white walls, white tile, and Carrera marble. People are tired of these muted palettes, and designers are bringing in color — which we love,” said Los Angeles real estate broker Lori Levine Harris.
Among vintage revival and matte black, experts say to consider these three kitchen design trends this year.
1. Bring the Outdoors In - Natural elements are finding their way into kitchens, whether with plants or earthy colors. According to Carrie Schulz at Block Renovation, “Neutrals, greens, and blues combine to create calm, grounding spaces.” For those who prefer neutrals, a gentle olive hue looks stunning on cabinetry and pairs well with white or black.
2. Opulent Tones and Textures - One trend many experts are noticing is the use of highly contrasting colors, such as dark and light tones. According to Bob Bakes and Paul Kropp, “Contrast is key. We might choose to use a very high-glass finish for the cabinetry and offset it with a matte wood finish for open shelving or accent panels.”
3. Statement Range Hoods - While appliances installed above range hoods, such as microwaves, have been the norm, designers recommend using this space to make a statement. Instead of a microwave, opt to install a custom range hood, which is both functional and eye-catching.
Kitchens are one of the most used spaces in a home. Mary Mayden, founder and principal of Maydan Architects, said, “I expect kitchens to continue to grow in size and importance with sophisticated appliances, USB and charger plugs, and designs that provide space to hang out, not just cook and eat.”
